About the Role
This is a senior, customer-facing technical role for a highly experienced Microsoft Exchange specialist ready to engage directly with enterprise and government clients on some of the most complex messaging infrastructure challenges in the market. As Exchange Customer Engineer, you will plan, deploy, operate, and optimise on-premises, hybrid, and cloud-based Exchange environments โ serving as the go-to technical authority throughout the engagement lifecycle.
You will work across a portfolio of Microsoft-aligned engagement types including Exchange Server migrations, Exchange Online activations and optimisations, hybrid architecture design, and Microsoft 365 reporting workshops. This role demands equal parts technical depth and client communication excellence โ you must be as comfortable presenting to a CIO as you are troubleshooting a complex hybrid routing issue.
Requirements
Must Have
5+ years of experience in customer-facing roles spanning systems architecture, administration, operations, IT consulting, or on-premises and cloud support for enterprise and/or government clients
Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
Proven track record in successfully planning, deploying, operating, and optimising on-premises, hybrid, and Exchange Online environments
Advanced experience managing Exchange Server environments with a focus on high availability and performance
Experience planning and executing migrations from legacy email systems to Exchange Server and from on-premises to Exchange Online
Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for Exchange administration and automation tasks
Knowledge of Active Directory and Azure Active Directory
Experience with email retention, compliance solutions, and hybrid Exchange environments
Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills โ able to engage technical teams, non-technical stakeholders, and client leadership with equal confidence
Optional / Nice to Have
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Graph API
Familiarity with the Well-Architected Framework and Cloud Adoption Framework โ including practical implementation experience
Relevant Microsoft certifications in Exchange, Microsoft 365, or related technologies
Responsibilities
- Plan, deploy, operate, and optimise on-premises, hybrid, and Exchange Online environments for enterprise and government clients
- Lead Exchange Server migrations from legacy email systems, including strategy development, timeline planning, and execution to minimise downtime and disruption
- Manage and maintain Exchange Server environments to ensure high availability and performance
- Plan and execute migrations from on-premises Exchange Server to Exchange Online (EXO), including post-migration support and troubleshooting
- Design and implement solutions spanning Exchange Server Workshop, Migration, Activation, Management, and Optimisation engagements
- Deliver Exchange Online Workshops, Pilot programmes, and Activation and Optimisation projects
- Conduct Microsoft 365 Usage Reporting Workshops and advise clients on platform adoption strategies
- Develop and execute data migration strategies ensuring data integrity and consistency throughout
- Manage Active Directory and Azure Active Directory configurations in relation to Exchange environments
- Implement email retention and compliance solutions aligned with client and regulatory requirements
- Leverage PowerShell scripting to automate management tasks and improve operational efficiency
- Communicate clearly and effectively with technical, non-technical, and leadership stakeholders throughout the engagement
